Restaurant Offers Authentic Dim Sum
Legacy Chinese Cuisine's menu includes mini spring rolls, pork spare ribs, shrimp dumplings, pot stickers and mango pudding.
A newer Palm Desert restaurant is providing a daily mid-day meal that harkens from the streets of Hong Kong in Palm Desert.
Legacy Chinese Cuisine, located on the corner of Highway 111 and state Route 74, offers a Dim Sum service from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, according to Pamela Bieri, a spokeswoman for the eatery.
During a recent media night, Chef Chai Butrlakorn, who is a Thailand native with Chinese roots, said he used his grandmother's Cantonese recipes to create the Dim Sum menu.

"We are bringing the best of both our cultures - Chinese and Thai -- to our two new restaurants," Butrlakorn said, adding that he and his wife Ally opened the Chinese restaurant in June and Legacy Thai in La Quinta a year ago.
Some of Legacy Chinese Dim Sum delicacies include mini spring rolls, Shu Mai, pork spare ribs, shrimp dumplings, pot stickers, steamed pork buns, egg custard tarts, mango pudding and many other delectable bites, all ranging from $2 to $4 per item, Bieri said.

Dim Sum, which is served throughout China, is a culinary tradition of light snacks that dates back to tea drinking.
Butrlakorn said Dim Sum service usually begins with steamed dishes and progresses to delicacies like chicken feet and egg custard tarts. All the dishes are cooked fresh to order.
"The desert is ready for a real Dim Sum. It's not that scary. It looks good. It taste good too," he said.
