'Les Cactus' Boutique Hotel With '60s Vibe Opens In Palm Springs
The recently refurbished, 27-room property blends an affordable Airbnb feel with stylish accommodations. Pet friendly, too!
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Hip, relaxed, green, white, pink and pet-friendly, Les Cactus is the newest hotel to hit the desert landscape.
On the boutique side with 27 rooms, the Palm Springs property, formerly The Terra Cotta resort, was named after the 1960s' French hit song by Jacques Dutronc, a moniker which suits the hotel with its chic, minimalistic, mid-cen style.
Les Cactus, in the Warm Sands neighborhood, underwent a six-month refresh and officially opens Saturday, Feb. 15, with rooms — a mix of one-bedroom suites and studios, many with kitchenettes — priced from $189 to $249 per night.

Management said its goal is to bring an "Airbnb-meets hotel" experience, catering to self-sufficient travelers, 21 and older, who place more value on design, experience and price than amenities.
“We saw a need for a fun, design-focused and affordable property, that blurs the line between traditional hotel operations and mom-and-pop, short-term rentals that guests will be excited to visit year-round,” said Les Cactus owner Matthew Kurtz.

Kurtz, a Los Angeles-based hotelier, led the Les Cactus project in a partnership with Richard Crisman and Jeff Brock, both affiliated with Palm Spring's Sparrows Lodge and Holiday House.
"We want guests to feel as comfortable as they would in the home of a best friend or family member,” Kurtz said. “That could mean grabbing snacks and drinks from the hotel's kitchen, playing the hotel's piano or acoustic guitar or stocking up on extra amenities from the curated retail shop.”
Les Cactus, at 555 S. Warm Sands Drive, features a heated pool, hot tub, Wifi, a gift shop, massage room, a hammock garden and a rooftop deck, plus communal living areas and complimentary, continental breakfasts served daily in the kitchen. See more on the hotel here.
