LG's Prime Steakhouse Shuttered

The iconic restaurant's owner, Gail Greenberg, says it is time to find a new location in Palm Desert.

LG's Prime Steakhouse has closed its Palm Desert location, but will keep its Palm Springs and La Quinta restaurants open, its owner announced Tuesday.

"The time has come for us to move forward and find a fresh, new location in Palm Desert,'' owner Gail Greenberg said in a statement.

The Palm Desert location -- at 74225 Highway 111 -- is a landmark in itself.

, which had closed for the summer season, was located in the 1948 adobe building, one of Palm Desert's oldest buildings.

"We will continue to bring our loyal clientele the superior experience that they have come to enjoy and expect,'' said Greenberg, who is the wife of founder Leon, who died in 2009 at the age of 85.

According to Gloria Goulet, a LG's spokeswoman, said the reason for the closure is the inability to renegotiate a lease.

She said there is no timetable to open a new Palm Desert restaurant, and a few of the employees had to be let go.

"The majority of the employees were shuffled between the other two restaurants, which are thriving,'' Goulet said.
