Living Desert to Host '3rd Annual Cheetah Run'

Runners and walkers are invited to join this fun and unique race held on grounds at The Living Desert on February 25.

From the Living Desert Zoo: The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is hosting the 3rd Annual Cheetah Run 5k/1k on Saturday, February 25. Runners and walkers are invited to partake in this fun and unique race held on grounds at The Living Desert.

The Cheetah Run is a rare opportunity to race through the park and enjoy all the many sights and sounds it has to offer. Runners will enjoy Bighorn sheep meandering along the mountainside, as well as zebras, camels and cheetahs enjoying their surroundings.

“The course is both beautiful and challenging with a combination of pavement and trail running,” said Dawn Petrick, Director of Park Services. “This race fits perfectly with our Year of the Cheetah theme and we encourage everyone to join us for the fun.”

Runners will receive free entrance to The Living Desert on the day of the run, a commemorative t-shirt, cheetah finisher medal, pre- and post-race refreshments, and an awards ceremony for the top three winners in each age group. The Cheetah Run is a sanctioned race produced by Klein/Clark Sports. All proceeds from the race will benefit The Living Desert’s education and conservation programming.

Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. with the 5k race beginning promptly at 7:30 a.m. The 5k entry fee is $35 for 13 years and older; $25 for runners 3 – 12 years. The 1k begins at 8:30am with an entry fee of $25 for ages 3- 99; Children under 3 are free. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 8:30am.
