Man Charged in Coachella Shooting, Carjacking

Alejandro Flores Magana of Coachella was arrested Wednesday during a raid of a home in the 84500 block of Avenue 52.

Prosecutors filed criminal charges Friday against a 21-year-old man accused of shooting a woman during a carjacking earlier this month.

Alejandro Flores Magana of Coachella pleaded not guilty to charges of carjacking, assault with a gun and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm during a hearing at the Larson Justice Center.

Magana was arrested Wednesday during a raid of a home in the 84500 block of Avenue 52, sheriff’s Sgt. Alan Northrup said.

On Sept. 12, deputies were called at 4:21 a.m. to a report of a shooting and carjacking in the 53500 block of Harrison Street, Northrup said.

Deputies found a woman with a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wound, who said she was carjacked, Northrup said.

Magana was being held in lieu of $2 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again Oct. 6 for a felony settlement conference.
