Massive Python Measuring 17+ Feet Found at RivCo Dump
The reptile was spotted by a landfill worker, who alerted animal services personnel.

JURUPA VALLEY, CA- A dead Burmese python was pulled out of a Riverside- area trash dump Wednesday, leaving animal control officials puzzled as to how it got there.
The albino python, bearing yellow and white marks, measured 17 feet, 7 inches, according to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
The reptile was spotted by a landfill worker, who alerted animal services personnel, John Welsh of the Department of Animal Services said.
“Although it would be hard to determine what caused the snake’s death, it’s very likely the python died of natural causes and the pet owner illegally dumped it without detection,” Welsh said.
According to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, it is illegal to own a python without a permit, and dumping an exotic pet -- living or dead -- can result in civil penalties.
The Department of Animal Services had impounded two Burmese pythons in the last few years after they escaped from their owners, Welsh said.
The deceased python was properly disposed of by animal services personnel, according to Welsh.
