Native American Day Celebrated At Fantasy Springs Resort Casino
Families and guests celebrated the cultural heritage of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians as the casino honored a longtime team member.

INDIO, CA - Fantasy Springs Resort Casino proudly celebrated its Native American Day on September 26, 2024, honoring the rich cultural heritage of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians and highlighting the resort’s commitment to its team members.
This year’s celebration coincided with the 35th anniversary of longtime team member Joaquin Ortiz, who was presented with heartfelt gifts, a spokesperson for the resort said in a recent news release.
"About 1,000 employees and their families attended the Native American Day event, which included a colorful light show featuring 500 drones set to Native American music and the telling of the Cahuilla people’s history, traditional performances, educational exhibits, and cultural demonstrations aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of Native American traditions.

"Dozens of vendors also featured traditional Native American dishes, artists selling beautiful jewelry and crafts, a zip line, a Ferris wheel, and other fun family activities.
Chairman of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians, Doug Welmas, praised the hard work and loyalty of the resort’s employees.

“Our team members are the backbone of Fantasy Springs," Welmas said. "Their dedication and spirit make this place a community, not just a destination. We’re proud to celebrate their efforts every day, and we honor them by sharing our rich heritage.”
The team member highlight is the recognition of Joaquin Ortiz for his incredible 35 years of service, making him the first employee to hit that milestone.
"Joaquin has been instrumental in Fantasy Springs' success, contributing to the resort’s growth and development," they said, adding that his steadfast dedication is a testament to the importance of cultivating a workplace where team members can thrive for decades.
“Joaquin embodies the values we cherish most—commitment, excellence, and heart,” said Chairman Welmas. “We are truly grateful for his 35 years of service and look forward to many more.”
