Officials Hold Grand Opening Of RivCo's New $12M Sports Park May 16

The celebration coincides with the 96th anniversary of the city's incorporation as a city and National Kids to Parks Day.

INDIO, CA — The city of Indio will celebrate the completion of $12.9 million, 30-acre sports park this weekend.

A grand opening ceremony will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 82600 Market St.

The family-friendly event will feature food vendors, games, giveaways and free activities. Located along Jackson and Monroe streets, the park has 11 soccer fields, including a professional-level field adaptable for football, two baseball and softball fields, a walking path, picnic areas and amenities, such as restrooms and drinking fountains.

"The Indio Sports Park represents a major investment in our community and our future," Mayor Elaine Holmes said in a statement. "This space was shaped by our residents and built to support our youth, bring families together and create a vibrant place for recreation and community life. We are proud to invite our community and celebrate this milestone together."

Funding for the project was provided by an $8.5 million State Parks Proposition 68 grant, Measure X funds, Community Development Block grant and the city's general funds.
