'Old Gays' Book Signing Scheduled In Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A book signing and panel discussion event for "The Old Gays to the Good Life" is set to be held in Cathedral City at the end of November, city officials announced Tuesday.

The Old Gays is a group of 67 to 80 year old LGBTQ+ activists who have over 11 million followers on TikTok, 680,000 on Instagram and 500,000 on Facebook. The group consists of Robert Reeves, Michael "Mick" Peterson, Bill Lyons and Jessay Martin.

Their newly published book, "The Old Gays Guide to the Good Life," will be available at the event for attendees to purchase, according to city officials.

"I'm proud that our city is valued and respected as a community that welcomes and embraces diversity and inclusivity," Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb said in a statement. "We can't wait to host this event celebrating Cathedral City's The Old Gays at Mary Pickford Theatre, and we're grateful for the incredible recognition they've brought to our desert community through their activism and wonderful sense of humor."

The approximately hour-long event, which is intended for mature audiences, will get underway at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 in the theatre, 36850 Pickfair St., according to a statement from the city. Attendees can show up as early as 5:15 p.m. for a welcome reception which will feature light refreshments.

The group will begin signing books in the upstairs area of the theatre after the panel discussion led by podcaster Jason Blitman, who co-hosts the Gays Reading podcast, is held.

Tickets for the event, with a limit of two per person, will become available at 11 a.m. Thursday on a first come, first serve basis at the Mary Pickford Theatre Box, city officials said. The box office will open at 11 a.m. each day, at which point tickets will be open and free to the public.

The event was approved Oct. 25 at the City Council meeting after the Parks and Community Events Commission approved $800 for the facility rental and refreshments at their Oct. 3 meeting, and the Public Arts Commission approved $800 to go toward the facility rental and sound and lighting staffing at their Oct. 10 meeting, according to city officials.
