Palm Desert Traffic Alert: Construction On CVWD Water Pipeline

Motorists can expect periodic lane closures over the course of construction.

PALM DESERT, CA — The next phase of road work begins Monday to expand the Coachella Valley Water District's Non-Potable Water distribution pipeline system in Palm Desert.

The new phase of planned construction starting Monday will be along Hovley Lane East between Washington Street and Cook Street with plans to reach CVWD's Water Reclamation Plant No. 10 in Palm Desert by early March, the utility said.

Officials advised the public to expect periodic lane closures over the course of construction but said one lane in each direction will be open at all times.

The construction is part of CVWD's Non-Potable Water distribution pipeline and will connect the Bermuda Dunes, Oasis, Palm Desert Resort and Woodhaven country clubs. The expansion of the pipeline will allow the soon-to-be-connected country clubs to utilize canal water and recycled water rather than groundwater for their irrigation.

CVWD officials hope the expansion will alleviate overdraft of the aquifer to allow for better balance of water supply and demand.
