Palm Desert Wind Advisory: Temperatures Drop Across Coachella Valley

Gusting winds started the week and a slight chance of rain is on the way.

PALM DESERT, CA — Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Indio were under a Wind Advisory to start the week, with gusts upward of 30 miles per hour expected in some areas, the National Weather Service reported. Meteorologists also predicted a chance of showers and some windy weather in the Pass Area and throughout much of Riverside County.

In the desert communities and Pass Area communities, the weather service issued a wind advisory for Coachella, Palm Desert and Palm Springs as well as Banning and Beaumont, effective from 11 a.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Winds are predicted to range between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph in some areas.

"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle," the NWS advised.

The cloudy, cool, and windy weather this week appeared as predicted. Southwest Riverside County residents woke to a foggy morning and drizzle, and that chance of rain continued through Monday, with scattered showers expected in the valleys and Inland Empire.

Foggy mornings and cool temperatures were expected to continue through Wednesday, fading into a chance of rain, according to meteorologists, and temperatures were expected to remain in the low 60s for the remainder of the week.

After a sunny weekend, with desert temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, the skies were sunny and warm—a high of 103 in Coachella and 101 in Palm Springs. In Hemet, temperatures reached 84 and in downtown Riverside 82, while Temecula reached a sunny 73.

Starting Monday, clouds settled into the region, and a chance of rain was forecast as early as Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. In the Pass Area, thunderstorms were considered likely for Thursday after 11 a.m. and the chance of rain showers stood at 70 percent.

In the eastern part of the county, the weather service issued a wind advisory for Banning and Beaumont, Coachella, Palm Desert and Palm Springs, effective from 11 a.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday. Winds are predicted to range between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle," the NWS advised.

The real rain chance was expected to hit on Thursday, with rainfall totals as much as a half-inch expected in downtown Riverside, Banning, Beaumont and the Pass Area, Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta and Temecula. Trace amounts of rain was forecast for the desert cities of Palm Springs and Palm Desert.

A slight chance of showers will remain in those areas until Friday before sunny skies return Saturday, the NWS said.
