Palm Springs Black History Parade And Town Fair Celebrated Saturday

The parade starts Saturday morning on Palm Canyon Drive in Downtown Palm Springs and ends in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs Black History Month will be celebrated this weekend with a Parade and Town Fair at Downtown Park, according to the committee for the events.

"In celebration of Black History Month, the Palm Springs Black History Committee and the City of Palm Springs James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center will host the '37th Annual City of Palm Springs Black History Month Parade and Town Fair,'" a spokesperson for the event said.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday on Palm Canyon Drive in Downtown Palm Springs.

Immediately following the Parade, the Town Fair is held at the New Downtown Park in Palm Springs across the street from the Palm Springs Art Museum.

The museum has celebrated Black History Month Nights at the Museum, which will culminate next Thursday with a block party celebrating 50 years of hip-hop music.

The museum nights began on Feb. 1 with a celebration of the Harlem Renaissance and African American culture and arts. It continued on Feb. 8 with a jazz-inspired program, Feb. 15 with a "Rhythm and Hues'' event featuring local fashion and music, and Feb. 19 with family-oriented programming related to Black History Month.

The series of events is set to conclude with a block party celebrating 50 years of hip-hop next Thursday.

The museum partnered with the Palm Springs Black History Month Committee to present the month-long celebration, which is part of a larger, citywide series of events scheduled throughout February.

Other events held at various locations included the 37th annual Black History Month Awards Gala, amen's basketball tournament, and a Palm Springs Black History Caravan.

The 37th annual Palm Springs Black History Month Parade and Town Fair will be held on Saturday.
