Palm Springs Student Police Academy Begins

The six-session course was designed for the Boys and Girls Club Keystone Student Leadership group of Palm Springs.

PALM SPRINGS, CA - The Palm Springs Police Department is launching its inaugural Student Police Academy Thursday, a six-week course that will teach youngsters the basics of law enforcement and how to interact with police in emergency and non-emergency situations.

The six-session course was designed for the Boys and Girls Club Keystone Student Leadership group of Palm Springs, according to police, and will begin with an introductory session exploring etiquette and legal rights when dealing with law enforcement members and current law enforcement-related issues.

The course will also delve into laws regarding theft, assault, drug and alcohol abuse and more. Students will also have the opportunity to utilize the department's Force Options Simulator, a firearm simulation program designed to teach when and when not to use deadly force.

The course will culminate with graduation during the sixth and final session, one step closer to a potential future career in law enforcement.
