Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Vehicle In Coachella Valley: CHP

MECCA, CA — A 39-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking on a roadway in the community of Mecca, authorities said Friday.

The man was struck shortly after 7:25 p.m. Thursday on 70th Avenue, east of Cleveland Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A white Honda Accord being driven at an unspecified rate of speed on 70th Avenue struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's Office identified him as Ramiro Gonzalez Jr. of Mecca.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

The investigation was ongoing.
