Public Hearing on More 'Coachella' Concerts

Indio wants to hear from the public about promoter's plans for more and larger music festivals.

A meeting will be held Tuesday at Indio City Hall where residents can give city officials feedback on the environmental impact report on a proposal by the organizers of the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals to add concerts.

Los Angeles-based concert promoter Goldenvoice's proposed Music
Festivals Plan would allow Coachella, Stagecoach and other proposed music
festivals to be held at the Empire and Eldorado polo clubs on up to five
weekends a year through 2030, "with up to three of these events allowed on
consecutive weekends each spring and the other two events allowed in fall,''
according to the plan's description on the city's website.

Maximum attendance, including staff, would be 99,000 people for three of
the events and 75,000 for the other two. Under the current agreement between
the city and Goldenvoice, Coachella's maximum is 95,000 and Stagecoach's is
65,000.

The plan also proposes to increase the festival site from 535 to 601
acres and expand the amount of land used for parking, camping and support
operations.

The current agreement allows Coachella and Stagecoach to be held over
three consecutive weekends in spring. This year, Coachella was held on two
consecutive weekends in April and Stagecoach on one weekend that month.

The city will prepare an environmental impact report on noise, transportation, public services and other issues relating to the project.

Besides attending the meeting, people can comment on the report through
mail and email. Information on Goldenvoice's plan is posted at the City of Indio website.
