RivCo Firefighters Rescue Person Struck By Train In Coachella
Firefighters rescued and then transported a train-crash victim to a trauma center for major injuries Thursday.

COACHELLA, CA — Firefighters rescued a person struck by a train in Coachella Thursday afternoon, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokesperson.
Just after 1:15 p.m., Cal Fire medics and firefighters arrived at the scene, near the tracks at Avenue 50 near Grapefruit Boulevard and Oates Lane in Coachella, to assist the injured person. Medics transported the injured person to a nearby trauma center, Cal Fire's Tara Fernandez told Patch.
"The victim was not fully struck by the train and survived, but the injuries from being hit by the train were considered major."

The train was halted at the scene and was expected to remain out of service for approximately two hours.
"There were no major road closures due to the incident," Fernandez said.
