“Crystalline Forms”

Debuts on Feb. 6

An exhibit of Mr. Evans’ latest hand thrown crystalline ceramic forms will be on display starting Feb. 6 at Planet Yachats Gallery, 73725 El Paseo, Suite 23A in Palm Desert. A reception to meet the artist runs from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6.  It is free and open to the public.

In his nearly 40-year teaching career at COD, Evans estimates that he has taught more than 30,000 students. Of those, “many have gone on to become ceramic teachers and artists,” he said. Evans continues to teach ceramics privately in a studio he built at his home in Palm Desert.

Evans and his wife, Susan took a sabbatical leave for one year starting in 1988 and traveled to 17 countries around the world to study art and pottery techniques. In Japan for three months, he worked along side a traditional Japanese “sensei” potter. In Nepal, he worked with a traditional ceramic sculptor.

A former student at College of the Desert, Evans earned an associate of arts degree at COD in 1968. He earned both BA and MA degrees in art at San Diego State University. He retired from COD in 2010 after nearly 40 years as professor of Visual Arts.
