Steel Beam Recovered From World Trade Center Is Heartbeat Of Indio's New 9/11 Memorial

INDIO, CA — The City of Indio will host its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, marking the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks with the unveiling of a new permanent memorial at Miles Avenue Park, 82540 Miles Ave.

The public ceremony begins at 9 a.m. The event will honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as first responders and military personnel.

Following the ceremony, city officials will dedicate the Indio 9/11 Memorial. Centered around a 12-foot steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center, the site is designed as a lasting space for reflection, education, and tribute to victims, survivors, and emergency personnel.

"Twenty-five years later, the memory of September 11 continues to remind us of the lives we lost, and the remarkable courage shown in the face of tragedy," Mayor Elaine Holmes said. "As we unveil Indio's 9/11 Memorial, we honor those who lost their lives, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the first responders and service members who answered the call with selfless dedication."

City officials are inviting residents, visitors, neighboring communities, and local public safety agencies to attend the event.
