Stranded, Lost Motorist Airlifted To Safety: Coachella Valley
The motorist's vehicle broke down, so the person attempted to hike out for service but became lost in a remote area.
COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — A motorist who got lost while attempting to hike for help after a vehicle breakdown was rescued Monday.
A call for help was received around 6:11 a.m. Monday. According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, the lost, fatigued hiker was near Aqueduct Road, southeast of Fargo Canyon Road in Coachella Valley.
Firefighters responded but were unable to reach the victim because the person was in a remote area inaccessible to vehicles, the agency said.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter was called to assist. The aircraft crew made the rescue, and the victim was airlifted to an awaiting ambulance.
There was no immediate word on the victim's condition.
