Thousands Without Power In Desert Community Amid Growing Heatwave

4,000+ Rancho Mirage residents were without power on Wednesday. That number has dropped, but hundreds still wait for the lights to turn on.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — More than 700 Southern California Edison customers in Rancho Mirage lost power on Wednesday.

The outage was reported at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, affecting customers in the area of Frank Sinatra Drive, according to the agency's website.

An SCE representative told City News Service there were 4,395 customers initially affected by the power outage, but crews were able to quickly reduce that number to about 750. As of 3 p.m., that number dropped to just over 500 customers.

The cause of the outage was not immediately known. SCE officials said power was expected to be restored by about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The power was expected to be fully restored by 10 p.m., according to the SCE Outage Map.
