Valley Hotels Offer Discounted Rates for Mountain Fire Evacuees

Palm Springs hotels are offering discounted room rates for those affected by the Mountain Fire, the city's tourism bureau announced Thursday.

A list of participating hotels is posted at www.visitpalmsprings.com.

"The city of Palm Springs is safe and open for business," according to a statement from the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism.

Although the fire, which started in Mountain Center, is burning a few miles from the city, there are no plans to evacuate Palm Springs, Palm Springs Fire Department Chief John Allen said. Several fire engines are ready "should additional protection be needed," Allen said.

The U. S. Forest Service has a community information board about the fire at South Palm Canyon Drive and Bogert Trail.
