What's Open/Closed In Palm Desert, New Year's Weekend 2022-23
New Year's Eve weekend closings in Riverside County begin Thursday and continue through until reopening Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.
PALM DESERT, CA — It's almost time to ring in 2023, and just like Christmas weekend, New Year's weekend begins with civic and facilities closures until the following week, according to the city of Palm Desert.
That includes most government facilities, like City Hall, which will remain closed through the weekend and reopen on Tuesday.
Below are the openings and closings to know for Christmas around Riverside County:

- Riverside County government offices: Closed from Friday, Dec. 31 through Monday, Jan 2. They will return on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
- Riverside County Schools: Students and staff are on winter break through the end of the year.
- Riverside County Animal Services: Closed to the public on Monday, Jan. 2 to reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3.
- Riverside County Libraries: Closed at 5 p.m. Dec. 30, Closed Jan. 1, Jan 2, to reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3.
- Riverside County courts open Friday, Dec. 31 Closed Monday, Jan. 2. Will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
- Waste Management and CR&R trash pickup: Trash collection is unaffected by the Christmas holiday.
- Post offices: Post Offices are closed on Saturday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 2 to reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3.
- DMV offices: Open Monday, Jan. 2.
- Riverside Transit Agency: New Year’s Eve | Friday, December 31: Buses will operate regular service with FREE RIDES after 2:30 p.m. | Customer Information Center will be open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Administrative offices will be closed.; New Year’s Day | Saturday, January 1 Buses will not operate. The Customer Information Center and administrative offices will be closed. | Sunday, January 2: Regular bus service resumes.
- Metrolink is available on Newy Year's Eve: Metrolink Countdown NYE special service trains will depart from the San Bernardino-Downtown Station at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday 12/31 and Sunday 1/1. The special trains will stop at Rancho Cucamonga, Montclair, Claremont, Covina, Cal State LA, and L.A. Union Station.
- Metrolink and Arrow will operate a Saturday schedule on the federally observed holiday of New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. The Saturday schedule includes service on the Antelope Valley, San Bernardino, Orange County, 91/Perris Valley, Ventura County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines. Metrolink trains will not operate on the Riverside Line.
- On Monday, January 2, 2023, Metrolink will operate a special schedule to help passengers get to the Rose Parade in Pasadena. The first train on the San Bernardino, Ventura County, Antelope Valley, 91/Perris Valley and Orange County lines will leave early so riders can connect with the Metro L (Gold) Line to reach Pasadena before the start of the parade. Metrolink riders may use their ticket for a free round-trip transfer onto the Metro L (Gold) Line.
