Whole Foods to Give Away Tons of Free Compost at Museum

Residents can stop by the museum between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday to take compost home.

The Whole Foods Market in Palm Desert will deliver 10 tons of fresh compost to the Palm Springs Art Museum Friday, and it will then be given away for free to the public as part of pre-Earth Day celebration.

Calling it part of the company’s commitment to the environment, Whole Foods takes spoiled produce and other biodegradable waste from its stores and hauls it to regional facilities, where it is turned into compost -- a practice that reduces landfill waste by 75 percent, organizers said.

The compost will be delivered at 8:30 a.m. to the museum, 72567 Highway 111, in Palm Desert.
