Wind Advisory For Palm Desert, Coachella Valley: 50 MPH Gusts Expected

Strong winds and blowing dust are heading to Coachella Valley, Pass Area, Banning, and Riverside/SB County Mountains. Here's what to know.

PALM DESERT, CA — Strong winds were forecast this week for Palm Desert, the Coachella Valley, Banning, Beaumont, and the Pass Area, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory would go into effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday through 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Riverside County Mountains, the San Gorgonio Pass Area near Banning, and the Coachella Valley, according to an urgent weather message from the National Weather Service.

Sustained west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour were expected, with gusts up to 50 mph probable, forecasters said.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs could be blown down," the NWS said. Drivers should also use caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.

High winds have also prompted a Dust Advisory, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Starting at 10 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"Recent dust events in the Coachella Valley have been difficult to predict," officials said. "The public is encouraged to pay close attention to the current conditions on the South Coast AQMD App . Coast AQMD App and on www.aqmd.gov/aqimap.
