Wind Gusts Up To 60 MPH Forecast In Coachella Valley

A wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory starting at noon Tuesday for the San Gorgonio Pass Area near Banning, as well as the Coachella Valley and local mountain communities.

West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts from 40 to 60 mph are expected that will make driving difficult on Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass into the Coachella Valley, the NWS warned.

The wind event is scheduled from noon Tuesday through 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Reduced visibility in the Coachella Valley from blowing dust and sand is also forecast, the NWS reported.

"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects," the agency said.

Daytime high temperatures in the Pass Area will be in the low to mid-70s on Tuesday and Wednesday with mostly clear skies. Coachella Valley daytime highs will be in the mid-80s to low 90s.

A chance of rain is forecast for both areas Thursday night.
