Windblown Dust Leads To Gene Autry Trail Closure Seek Alternate Routes

Police closed Gene Autry Trail between Via Escuela and Salvia Road toward Palm Springs Airport Wednesday morning due to blowing sand & dust.

PALM DESERT, CA — Gusting winds whipped up dust and sand to the northeast of Palm Springs Wednesday morning, making driving dangerous if not impossible in some areas.

From just south of the I-10 exit, the Gene Autry Trail between Via Escuela and Salvia Road due to low visibility from blowing sand, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. Drivers leaving the I-10 freeway from the Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert exit, heading north, will be unable to traverse that stretch of the road Wednesday, as of 11 a.m.

No delays due to dust were reported at the nearby Palm Springs International Airport as of 11:15 a.m.
