Worker's Body Pulled from PGA West Lake

The man has been identified as a Mecca resident.

Authorities Wednesday released the name of a worker who was doing maintenance on a La Quinta golf course lake when he fell out of a rowboat and drowned.

Jose Juan Vallejo, 45, of Mecca was a member of a work crew cleaning plant material from the artificial lake at the PGA West golf club when he fell overboard around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Riverside County sheriff’s and coroner’s departments.

Efforts by Vallejo’s co-workers to save him were unsuccessful, and his body was recovered late Tuesday by members of the sheriff’s dive team,Sgt. Randy Vasquez said.
