Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge Announces Harlem Globetrotter John Lane as Event Chairman

The Family YMCA of the Desert will host the 4th annual Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge on October 1st.

PALM DESERT, CA - From Y B Fit Palm Desert Challenge: The 4th Annual Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge is coming up October 1st, and Family YMCA of the Desert has recently announced that John Lane, a former member of the international Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, will be Chairman of this year’s event. Lane, owner of Lanes Sports, supplies many schools with sports activities. As a new feature to this year’s Y Be Fit, Lane will put on a basketball clinic using the specialized skills he learned as a Globetrotter, local kids will be selected to be part of a full court basketball game, and Lane will showcase some of his Globetrotter skills. This event is part of the Health and Fitness Fair and is free to the public. The basketball clinic will be held at the outside basketball courts at Palm Desert Civic Center Park, behind the YMCA at 9:30 a.m.

It is also not too late to register for the Reverse Mini-Triathlon, the 5K Run/Walk, or the 1K Color Run. For those not participating in one of the morning’s races, everyone is encouraged to attend the free Health and Fitness Fair, featuring activities, music, and fun for the whole family. The Health and Fitness Fair will be held at Civic Center Park and PDAC from7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., including vendor and information booths, entertainment, and activities. Activities will include a mini-Boot Camp with the 29 Palms Marine Base, pool-side yoga, spin classes, and more.

Family YMCA of the Desert is one chapter of the national YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization, strengthening valley communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Registration for Y Be Fit is still open, advanced registration is recommended as the fees will increase the day of the event. The 1K Color Run is $10 (YMCA members $5), the 5K Run/Walk is $35, the Reverse Mini-Triathlon is $55, and the Reverse Mini-Tri Team is $85.
