Palm Springs Police Leader Honored at Memorial Day Luncheon (nbcpalmsprings.com) — A veteran Palm Springs Police Department services manager has been recognized for 25 years of work in public safety communications at a Memorial Day luncheon in Cathedral City. The event also honored Rep. Raul Ruiz and community member Nicole Shapiro, highlighting local leadership and service while emphasizing Memorial Day’s focus on fallen military members.    

2. Can School Drone Programs Thrive Without More Funding? (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Springs–area middle school students just earned top honors at an international drone competition hosted in the city, spotlighting a resource-stretched robotics and engineering program. The Title I school’s team builds durable racing drones, learns advanced STEM skills through hands-on competition, and now hopes increased community funding and donations will expand access to equipment, training, and future events.    

3. Drag Race alum Honey Davenport makes history by winning International Mr Leather (gaycities.com) — Palm Springs gets a shout-out on the global leather stage as local titleholder Honey Davenport, who found community after moving here, wins the International Mr Leather 2026 contest in Chicago. Davenport, the first Drag Race alum to take the crown, credits Palm Springs’ leather and kink scene with helping them connect the dots between drag, leather, and identity.    

4. Top 10 female singers with most Hot 100 songs in charting history (thebiglead.com) — Palm Springs gets a brief spotlight as Miley Cyrus is noted receiving an artistic achievement award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards while being tied for seventh in Hot 100 history. The piece mainly ranks top female artists by total Billboard Hot 100 entries, led by Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, and others.    

5. ‘The Man I love,' ‘Club Kid,' and other queer movies highlight Cannes Film Festival (gaycitynews.com) — Palm Springs’ own Tool Shed bar is featured in a Cannes-screened short, showing how a local gay leather bar became a haven for mostly senior patrons facing rising homophobia after the 2024 election. That film appears alongside a slate of international queer features and shorts, from wartime romances to family dramas, all highlighting LGBTQ+ stories that may resonate strongly with the city’s queer community.
