Windblown Dust Advisory Issued In Coachella Valley

INDIO, CA — The South Coast Air Quality Management District Wednesday issued a windblown dust advisory for the Coachella Valley.

The advisory was in effect from 5 p.m. Wednesday through at least 11:59 p.m. Thursday in the areas of Cathedral City, Indio, Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Mecca and La Quinta due to air quality levels reaching "very unhealthy or higher," officials said.

Gusty winds of up to 50 mph were expected to cause periods of elevated particle pollution, with northwest Coachella Valley to expect the highest impacts.

The agency stated that winds were expected to decrease by around 8 a.m. Thursday, with air quality levels ranging from "good to moderate in the daytime."

The public was advised to limit exposure outdoors, avoid vigorous physical activity, run air conditioning or an air purifier and to slow down while driving on dirt roads.
