PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills announced Thursday that he will retire in September after serving for 13 years in the role.
Mills said on a social media post Thursday that he notified the city manager and council of his retirement, which will be on Sept. 5. He and his wife, Cathy, plan to move near his mother in the Sacramento area to support her.
"I cannot adequately express what an honor it has been to lead the men and women of policing and serve this amazing community," Mills said.
He was made police chief in October 2021, and was involved in helping other law enforcement agencies during last year's car bombing in Palm Springs. He will retire after serving 48 years in law enforcement.
Mills expressed his thoughts on the department's readiness to lead after his retirement saying in part, "The department is ready to move forward with the mission. They are committed to supporting and serving a wonderful community that cares about people, supports one another and wants great public safety. The team is 100% ready."
