Palm Springs Unified School District To Launch Attendance System Via AI Text

According to the district's website, the attendance system will allow school staff and parents to communicate in real-time via text alerts.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs Unified School District will introduce its inaugural artificial intelligence-powered attendance system designed to communicate with parents regarding a child's absence from school, with parents expected to receive a welcome text notification on Tuesday.

According to the district's website, the attendance system will allow school staff and parents to communicate in real-time via text alerts only. Families will be automatically enrolled in the messaging platform using their existing phone numbers without requiring parents or guardians to install or download an app.

Additionally, the platform will operate on a secure system within the district, according to the website. Details surrounding the apparent secure system were not immediately available.

Parents will receive a text notification if a student is marked absent by their teacher, in which a parent can respond in their own words. The platform will include more than 100 languages.

"Our AI texting system connects you directly with your student's school in seconds. Our goal is full attendance — and when a student is out, understanding why helps us support them," district officials said.

The system will roll out Tuesday.
