Palm Springs Police increase patrols following Tuscon shooting (kesq.com) — Palm Springs police have increased patrols throughout downtown and the Arenas District to reassure residents after a deadly shooting at an LGBTQ+ venue in Tucson. Outgoing Chief Andy Mills and incoming Chief Kyle Stjerne joined officers on the street, while Greater Palm Springs Pride emphasized resilience and support for local LGBTQ+ spaces amid concerns about hate-motivated violence.
   

2. Palm Springs International Film Festival Announces 2027 Dates (patch.com) — Palm Springs residents can mark their calendars now: the 38th Palm Springs International Film Festival is set for January 7–18, 2027, with film awards at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros. Expect 11 days of screenings, panels like "Talking Pictures" and "Family Day," and a strong track record of showcasing future Oscar nominees.
   

3. Palm Springs Unified Launches Aviation Education Program at Air Museum (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Springs Unified is launching a new aviation and aeronautics career program at the Palm Springs Air Museum, giving local high school students hands-on exposure to aviation jobs. Initial participants come from Desert Hot Springs High, with Palm Springs High and other valley schools joining later this fall and winter, potentially opening new career paths for interested teens.
   

4. Well in the Desert Suspends Saturday Food Bank After Palm Springs Move (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Families in Palm Springs who rely on Well in the Desert's Saturday food bank will temporarily lose that service after the nonprofit had to leave its longtime North Indian Canyon Drive site, now being acquired by the city for a new fire station. Weekday meals through partner churches and Oscar's Palm Springs will continue while the group searches for a new permanent location.
   

5. Riviera Palm Springs Closes for Multimillion-Dollar Renovation, Return to Classic Branding - (pstribune.com) — A major Palm Springs landmark, the Riviera Palm Springs (formerly Margaritaville), has closed from June through December 2026 for a down-to-the-studs renovation, with reopening planned in early 2027. The project restores its classic Riviera branding under IHG, refreshing rooms, public spaces, and pools while pausing all reservations and directing guests to contact the hotel about existing bookings.
