• Blaze Near Thermal Airport Chars 50 Acres, 20% Contained (mynewsla.com) — Palm Springs residents should know that their city's fire department helped battle a 50-acre brush fire near Thermal's Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport late Thursday night, with the blaze 20% contained by Friday morning. No evacuations were ordered, but nearby roads remained closed as crews continued mop-up and strengthened containment lines while investigators probed the cause.
   

• Coachella Mexican eatery fails inspection for missing certification (desertsun.com) — Palm Springs diners may be reassured that all but one Coachella Valley restaurant inspected between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3 earned passing "A" grades, with Palm Springs locations included on the inspection list. Only Coachella's Birreria Jalisco received a "B" and will be rechecked Sept. 10, while no inspections were reported in Indian Wells or Rancho Mirage.
