PALM SPRINGS, CA — Roadwork on Highway 111 in and near Palm Springs is expected to continue through the week as part of a $3.2 million pavement preservation project, the California Department of Transportation said.
The project extends from the 10 Freeway to about a half-mile west of Tramway Road. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and includes pavement resurfacing, the application of pre-coated aggregate and asphalt rubber binder, installation of traffic stripe tape and vegetation control, the Caltrans announced on Saturday.
The project is funded through Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, which provides funding for transportation infrastructure and road maintenance. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Motorists should expect single-lane closures during construction, with at least one lane remaining open in each direction at all times, according to Caltrans. Signs will alert drivers to upcoming lane closures and reduced speed limits, according to Caltrans.
The California Highway Patrol will be present to assist with traffic management and safety, Caltrans said.
