WHITEWATER, CA — A $2.7 million emergency project to address potential roadway hazards along the 10 Freeway in Whitewater was underway Tuesday, with crews working to remove sediment and debris from an eroding slope, according to Caltrans.
Caltrans temporarily closed the number 4 lane of westbound I-10 between the State Route 62 interchange and Tipton Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday, the agency said.
Caltrans said the work is being conducted under the governor's emergency orders to address severe slope erosion that poses an immediate threat to the roadway ahead of the winter weather season.
Motorists were urged to reduce their speed when traveling through the construction zone.
Warning signs will be posted along the highway, and the California Highway Patrol will assist with traffic control.
