PALM SPRINGS, CA — South Palm Canyon Drive between Camino Parocela and East Sunny Dunes Road in Palm Springs reopened Tuesday after a temporary road closure due to a damaged gas line.
The issue was reported at about 11 a.m. Tuesday while crews were working on a bridge project, city officials said. Emergency personnel and utility crews were dispatched to the scene around midday Tuesday and shut off the gas line.
SoCal Gas completed its work and roadways reopened around 2 p.m.
Motorists were advised to continue driving with caution in the project area, and businesses remained open in the area.
Crews will finish re-planting two palm trees in the center median as part of the South Palm Canyon bridge project, which began at 5 a.m. Tuesday on South Palm Canyon Drive, north of East Sunny Dunes Road, and is expected to be completed later this year.
