Palm Springs Airport Secures $5.5M For Baggage System Project

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs International Airport has received $5.5 million in federal funding for its baggage handling system, airport officials announced Wednesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration's airport infrastructure program awarded the airport $5,501,525 in grant funding that will support the final phase of the baggage system project, which includes software integration, commissioning, testing, construction administration and project management.

"This investment is ultimately about making the travel experience at PSP better for our passengers," said Victoria Carpenter, interim director of aviation at PSP. "Modernizing this critical infrastructure will allow us to move checked bags faster, more accurately and more reliably while preparing PSP for continued growth. For our passengers, that means a smoother journey and greater confidence that their luggage will arrive when they do."

The project costs roughly $93.6 million, with $66.5 million in federal funding representing more than 70% of the total cost.

The baggage system funding also includes $14.4 million in passenger facility charge revenue and $12.6 million in airport funds.

Work is underway and expected to be completed in late 2028.
