Travel Platform Makes Travel Planning Easier For Disabled Individuals In CV

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Disabled individuals seeking to visit attractions throughout the Coachella Valley can find which areas are accessible for people with disabilities via a travel platform, it was announced Monday.

Visit Greater Palm Springs, the official tourism marketing agency for the Coachella Valley, has partnered with Wheel the World, a website for anyone with accessibility needs, to make traveling easier.

"Travel is about discovering new places, sharing experiences and making memories with people you love. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy that," Lauren Bruggemans, senior director of destination at Visit Greater Palm Springs, said in a statement. "Having the right information ahead of time can make all the difference. We want travelers to arrive feeling confident, welcomed and ready to enjoy their time here."

According to Wheel the World, one in six people worldwide live with a disability, and around 15 million travelers with disabilities take more than 40 million trips annually in the U.S. alone, spending roughly $120 billion.

Officials said the Wheel the World "mappers" have conducted on-site assessments at participating businesses listing more than 200 criteria, including step-free access, accessible parking and bathroom features.
