2. Fake 49ers Player SCAMMER: Targets Asian & Indian Women In Tech!! (mediatakeout.com) — Federal agents have arrested a man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player to run a $1.3 million romance and investment scam that allegedly targeted many Asian and Indian women in tech, including some in Palo Alto. Authorities say victims, often high‑earning professionals, were persuaded to hand over large sums or take out loans for fake opportunities.
3. Star student rejected by 16 colleges, hired by Google, gets legal win in racial discrimination suit (foxnews.com) — A Palo Alto father and his son, Gunn High School graduate and Google engineer Stanley Zhong, won a key ruling allowing parts of their anti-Asian discrimination lawsuit against the University of Washington to proceed. The case, sparked after Stanley's rejections from 16 top colleges despite stellar credentials, could influence how selective universities nationwide handle admissions for Asian American applicants.
4. Stanford make big plays late game to hold Hawai'i 4th quarter comeback (usatoday.com) — Stanford opened its football season in Palo Alto with a 37-27 win over Hawai'i, giving new head coach Tavita Pritchard his first collegiate victory before more than 23,000 fans.
