Supporters tout long-delayed seismic, HVAC and arts improvements, while opponents question whether the general tax truly guarantees money for Cubberley and criticize the city's process and ballot language.
• What's up this week: Paly students' science book, political satire sketch show, '90s rockers, a PBS travel host and more (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto High School students are launching their science-themed picture book "The Brave Fuzzy" at Books Inc. Palo Alto this weekend, one of several local events happening in and around town. Residents can also catch jazz at Meyhouse on Emerson, author talks, theater in Mountain View and Los Altos, concerts at Stanford and Menlo Park, and a visit from travel guru Rick Steves.
• Photography meets Victorian-era 3D printing in Cantor Art Center's new show (paloaltoonline.com) — A new exhibition at Stanford's Cantor Arts Center explores a 19th-century "photosculpture" technology that blended photography with early 3D techniques, drawing timely parallels to today's Silicon Valley innovation culture. On view through Jan. 18, the free show traces French inventor François Willème's rise and fall and connects his work to modern 3D printing and AI-era imaging. The Palo Alto Weekly notes that community support keeps this kind of local arts coverage going.
