Arts at St. Bede's presents Masterworks' Serenade Sunday February 22nd at 4pm

Serenade Chamber Choir sings prayers, lullabies and love songs - plus Brahms Rhapsody Op 79, #1 and Wieniawski Reverie for Viola and Piano.

Serenade Chamber Choir appears on the Arts at St. Bede’s concert series on Sunday, February 22nd at 4pm. The concert takes place at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 2650 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025.

Under the direction of Dr. Bryan Baker, accompanied by Inara Morgenstern on piano and Gordon Thrupp on violin, Serenade will perform a program of prayers, lullabies and love songs: a set of Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs); Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, Gershwin’s Embraceable You, Stacy Garrop’s Lullaby from a text by Shakespeare, MLK by U2, and more. An accomplished concert pianist, Dr. Baker will also perform Brahms’ Rhapsody Op. 79, #1, and guest artist Gordon Thrupp will present the Reverie for Viola and Piano by Wieniawski.

Founded in January 2008 by Dr. Bryan Baker, Serenade is a chamber choir of 26 singers selected by audition primarily among members of Masterworks Chorale. The singers are committed members of the chamber choir, devoting many hours to rehearsal and performance with Serenade. Its varied repertoire, which partially overlaps that of Masterworks Chorale, ranges from classical to contemporary, spirituals and popular pieces.

The performance space at St. Bede’s provides a uniquely warm sensory and acoustic space for vocal and string music in particular, and this concert promises a feast of vocal and instrumental fireworks as well as shimmering harmonies to delight and soothe the spirit.
