Bay Area Under Spare The Air Alert

The air quality index forecast for Saturday is "unhealthy for sensitive groups."

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA — A "Spare the Air Alert" is in effect is Saturday, June 30, for the San Francisco Bay Area. Concentrations of ground-level ozone pollution are forecast to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, especially in the Santa Clara Valley and the East Bay, where the air quality index will be 101, according to Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

When there is an AQI of 101, active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit outdoor exertion, officials with the BAAQMD say.

On days when an air alert is in effect, all Bay Area residents are asked to drive less in order to reduce smog in the region.
