The Albany Consort has been pleasing audiences for 52 years in big venues and small spaces, with hundreds of musicians, on two continents. This midsummer celebration by seven principals begins with meandering through the 17th and 18th centuries exploring transcendent repeated bass patterns. Love is the binding theme, presenting Monteverdi on love unrequited, Purcell on love in the air, Heinrich Biber on the cycle of life, Bach helping to install a newly approved town mayor, and Couperin summing up with exquisite good taste.
Plus a quartet by Janitsch that quotes Bach's magnificent Music Offering. And finally Jonathan's translucent rescoring of Bach's Cantata 51 for micro-orchestra.
Soprano Rita Lilly is joined by instrumentalists Jonathan Salzedo (harpsichord), Marion Rubinstein (recorders), Sand Dalton (oboe), Dominic Favia (trumpet), Joe Edelberg (violin and viola) and Amy Brodo (cello and viola da gamba).
$30 general; $75 family; or you can pay what you wish to pay.
