Meyhouse Classical: Love as Language — Anoush Pogossian & Amber Scherer

Love can be expressed through romance, memory, nature, family, culture, and the traditions we carry with us.

For this Classical Sunday recital, clarinetist Anoush Pogossian and pianist Amber Scherer present Love as Language, a program celebrating the many forms of love and human connection. Through lush Romantic expression, poetic depictions of the natural world, and music honoring family and cultural heritage, the evening explores how composers transform deeply personal experiences into a language shared across generations.

Alongside beloved works from the Romantic era, the program highlights beautiful, lesser-known music that brings a wider range of voices and perspectives into the classical repertoire.

Together, Pogossian and Scherer invite audiences to experience music as a language beyond words—one that can communicate tenderness, longing, belonging, and connection.

Set in the warm and intimate atmosphere of Meyhouse Jazz, Classical Sunday offers a close-up concert experience with exceptional musicianship, dinner service, and the signature Meyhouse hospitality.

Artist Bios

Anoush Pogossian

Clarinetist Anoush Pogossian is a 2025 recipient of the Robert Sherman Award for Music Education and Community Outreach and was recently featured on WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase for her ongoing project, Komitas and Friends: Armenian Folk Music, Then and Now. A 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, she has also received awards and scholarships from the Armenian General Benevolent Union, Armenian Educational Foundation, Music Center Spotlight Competition, and the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship.

A passionate advocate for new music, Anoush has worked closely with leading composers including Reena Esmail, Jessie Montgomery, Jörg Widmann, Brett Dean, Hilda Paredes, and Timo Andres. She has performed with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Riverside Symphony, Westside Chamber Players, and Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared at festivals including Yellow Barn, Norfolk, Skaneateles, Sebago-Long Lake, and Apple Hill.

Anoush is a fellow in Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect for the 2025–2027 seasons and is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at The Juilliard School, where she previously earned her master’s degree. She also holds a degree in psychology with honors from Columbia University through the Columbia–Juilliard dual-degree program.

Amber Scherer

Korean German pianist and educator Amber Scherer is a collaborative artist whose work encompasses chamber music, vocal repertoire, and arts education. She earned degrees in psychology and piano performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory and pursued graduate studies in collaborative piano at The Juilliard School.

Committed to expanding representation within classical music, Scherer has performed programs centered on women composers and creators and helped establish Oberlin’s first Asian Cultural Arts Festival. Her festival and residency experience includes SongFest, Chautauqua, Round Top, Colorado College, Caramoor, and the Oxford International Song Mastercourse.

Evening Format Doors open at 5:00 PM, and guests are warmly invited to enjoy dinner before the performance. Our full menu is offered à la carte during this time. Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price and will be offered separately from our regular Meyhouse à la carte menu before the performance begins.

To fully enjoy your dinner experience with the Meyhouse menu, timely arrival is highly recommended especially for parties of four or more, as a relaxed dining experience typically requires up to two hours. Dinner service concludes promptly at 7:00 PM.

At 7:00 PM, the room transitions into a focused, acoustically attentive concert setting. The performance lasts approximately 90 minutes, presented in two parts with an intermission.

To preserve the integrity and intimacy of the music, no food or beverage service will take place during the concert.
