Introduction to Floral Design

Welcome the start of a new academic year with flowers. In this introductory workshop, discover how flower arranging can bring the garden indoors to brighten your home.

Learn how to create artful floral designs using sustainable and foam-free mechanics. We will explore how to select high-quality blooms and properly condition and care for them so your arrangement will last as long as possible.

We will also discuss the best tools, mechanics, and containers to use for successful and beautiful floral designs.

You will leave this workshop with practical knowledge, newfound floral arranging skills, and a delightful arrangement to take home and dazzle your friends and family.

Instructor Bio

Katherine Glazier is an instructor and floral arranger at Gamble Garden, and she co-led the floral design program at Filoli for eight years. She holds a European Master Certification (EMC) and a Teacher’s Diploma in the Sogetsu school of Ikebana. Katherine exhibits at Bouquets to Art at the deYoung Museum, and she conducts public floral demonstrations. Seasonal and locally grown material, with an emphasis on the beauty of California floriculture, is showcased in her designs. She also enjoys incorporating eastern and western design philosophies in her work.
