Due to the pandemic, the Library system was recently challenged with cutting $1.6 million from its $10.3 million budget to help the City address a $39 million citywide deficit. While this cut to the budget was achieved by a reduction in staff, collections, and business hours, the team has been looking for innovative ways to continue reopening its locations and services on a leaner budget.

When the City Council adopted the fiscal year budget in June, staff reported that we expect it to take 3–6 months before College Terrace and Downtown libraries can be reopened. Understanding the community’s desire to open all the libraries, the Library is now planning to implement phased reopening and expansions of all locations.
