Energy Healer Works Magic on Dogs, Cats

Palo Alto woman does energy work for people and animals.

She lives “outside of the box.” She charges based on what she "feels." She asks her clients to make offerings and to place them on a rock. She changes one’s energy while chatting with them. She is Prema Wylie, an energy worker, and she is here to heal your hound.

I walked into Prema’s salon with nothing but a pen, paper and my dog, Scout. I was welcomed by poppy paintings, comforting chairs and a flower-covered side table. Prema is an interior designer by hobby, who “designed the salon to be like a home—and to share the love.”

At the time of the appointment, my cat had just the night before been diagnosed with cardiac disease, and my mind was not on reporting. I was preoccupied and had to force myself to concentrate on the interview. After sharing the news of this tragedy with Prema, she knowingly told me that I had not, in fact, gone to see her to help my dog, but instead my cat.

“You didn’t know this. I didn’t know this,” she said, but this appointment was for my cat. My dog, “a healer dog,” as she referred to him, would transfer the positive energy to my diseased cat to make him feel better, she told me.

Three days later, my cat is recovering greatly.

Prema told me all this as she curled and uncurled her fingers to help my dog’s back. “I’m actually running energy on him as we’re talking,” she said. Prema does not touch her patients, but instead helps them from afar. She mostly sees patients in person and runs energy on them as they are conversing, but Prema also does energy work for people—and animals—over the phone.

Because Prema believes physical issues can be caused by emotional issues, her energy work helps people and animals with problems ranging from stress to asthma.

“I was at a party, and Prema was there, and I had a terrible, terrible cold,” said Sue, a client of Prema’s with asthma. After a few sessions every five or six weeks and using an oil Prema provided, Sue was “able to breathe and breathe freely.”

Prema clears her clients’ blockages with her energy work, she said.

“It doesn’t matter which lifetime it comes from," she said, "if spirits haven’t worked it out, if something is unresolved as a little kid or animal, it can come out later as physical pain or anger.”

Prema said she feels that Scout’s back problems began when he was a puppy, before he became a 77-pound golden retriever. She said that, with a few more sessions, Scout’s back problems will diminish, just as so many other problems have diminished in pets she has treated.

Prema also was able to accurately "feel" the colors of my cats—one is red, and the other, dark.

Although she loves her energy work, Prema mostly practices hairdressing. She has been in the hair business for 26 years, and knew it was her calling since she was 8 years old.

However, seven years ago, Prema began also practicing energy work.  “I asked for it,” Prema said, “because doing hair is really hard on the body physically.” She said the "Divine" guided her to energy work.

Prema said she first felt energy and the presence of spirits, which “scared the heck” out of her, as a teenager.

She did not grow up in a family that believed in spirits, but they and her husband support her, nonetheless. She and her husband both practice Hinduism.

“I’m the black sheep in the family,” she said.

With help from a higher power and from the individual who believes in energy work—and every individual must believe in it in order for it to work, she said. Prema said she is merely “an extended hand,” because “nobody can heal anybody; all we can do is assist.”

“I do it with love and a heart,” she said. “Everybody’s welcome.”
