The therapeutics of yoga can be used in pregnancy to help women develop and nurture their physical and emotional strength while preparing for labor. In our Monday morning class, Michelle draws on her background of Anusara, Iyengar, and Bikram Yoga and prenatal physical therapy techniques to provide a vigorous workout that allows women to create and maintain a solid foundation of strength and flexibility for a healthy pregnancy, birth and recovery. Class begins with a check in, chanting, setting intentions, light stretching and then builds to a vigorous/moderate flow of sun salutations and building heat from within. Forward bends, partner work, and lots of squats are included in the practice and class closes with floor postures that are a combination of strengthening, stretching and savasana. This is a great class to decrease discomforts associated with pregnancy and is appropriate for students seeking a physical challenge.
