Gilroy Man Arrested During Santa Clara County Sex-Offender Checks

County officers are also seeking the whereabouts of six other registered offenders out of compliance.

Law enforcement officials on Thursday arrested a registered sex offender during compliance checks done throughout Santa Clara County.

Jesse Arias, 56, of Gilroy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Law enforcement officers from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force, the Gilroy Police Department, Santa Clara Police Department, the Division of Adult Parole Operations GPS Sex Offender Units and the United States Marshals Office conducted sex registrant compliance checks throughout the city of Gilroy and surrounding areas of unincorporated Santa Clara County.

Law enforcement officers said the purpose of the operation was to verify the addresses of people required to register as sex offenders.

Law enforcement officers said the task force also identified six other sex offenders who are in violation of California’s Sex Offender law.

Officers are investigating the whereabouts of those individuals.

Santa Clara County has approximately 4,000 registered sex offenders within the county, according to the sheriff’s office.
